Selling a car in Dubai does not have to take weeks of phone calls and viewings. With a clear plan and a well-prepared listing, you can reach serious buyers across the UAE and close the sale with confidence. This guide walks you through each step, from getting your car ready to handing over the keys.
1. Gather Your Documents First
Before you publish anything, make sure you have everything a buyer will ask for:
- Your vehicle registration card (Mulkiya) and Emirates ID.
- Service records and receipts, ideally from an authorised dealer.
- Any warranty or service-contract documents that transfer to the new owner.
- If the car is financed, a letter from your bank about the outstanding balance. The loan must be settled and the car released before ownership can be transferred.
Having these ready shows buyers you are organised and helps the sale move faster.
2. Prepare the Car
First impressions matter. A clean, well-kept car sells faster and closer to your asking price.
- Get a full interior and exterior clean, including the engine bay.
- Fix small, inexpensive issues such as warning lights, worn wiper blades or a weak battery.
- Consider an independent inspection report. Sharing it with buyers builds trust, especially for high-value and luxury cars.
3. Take Great Photos
Photos are the first thing buyers see. Good photos get more clicks, more calls and better offers.
- Shoot in daylight, in an open space, with no clutter behind the car.
- Include the front, rear, both sides, all four wheels, the dashboard, the seats, the boot and the odometer.
- Show any scratches or damage honestly. Buyers will see them anyway, and honesty avoids wasted viewings.
4. Set a Realistic Price
Look at similar cars — same make, model, year, mileage and specification — currently listed in our inventory. Note whether your car is GCC specification, its service history and its overall condition, since these all affect value. A fair price from day one usually sells faster than a high price that has to be cut later.
5. Write a Clear Listing
When you add your car on Canal Market Emirate Motor, fill in every field: make, model, year, mileage, body type, fuel, transmission, colour, specification and condition. Then write a short, honest description:
- What makes the car special (options, colour, low mileage, full service history).
- Any work done recently.
- Why you are selling, if you are comfortable sharing it.
Complete listings appear in more search filters and get more serious enquiries. See our pricing page for listing and promotion options.
6. Handle Enquiries Safely
- Reply quickly — buyers often contact several sellers at once.
- Meet in a public, well-lit place, and go with the buyer on any test drive.
- Never hand over the car or documents before the payment has cleared. Prefer bank transfers or a manager’s cheque that you can verify with the issuing bank.
7. Complete the Transfer
Once you agree on a price, sign a written sale agreement with both parties’ details, the car details and the agreed price. Then complete the ownership transfer through the RTA (or the relevant emirate’s authority) together with the buyer. Requirements can change, so check the current steps on the official RTA website or app before the appointment.
